
Mike was born in Lovell, Wyoming. He attended the University of Wyoming and Brigham Young University receiving a degree in Accounting in 1976. He received his CLU designation in 1978 and his ChFC designation in 1981. He holds a Series 7 securities license.
Mike contracted with The Equitable of New York in January of 1972 working with his father Jack Stevens. He qualified for the Equitable Hall of Fame in 1988. Mike joined the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company with the Cambridge Financial Center Group in 2001.
Mike has served the state and local NAIFA associations as:
1) NAIFA Wyoming President - 1984-85
2) NAIFA Wyoming State National Committeeman - 1985-1994
3) NAIFA Utah President 1998-99
4) NAIFA Utah State Legislative Chair - 1999-2010
5) NAIFA Utah State National Committeeman - 2010-2013
Mike has served the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) on many national committees including Chairman of the Recognition, Quality and Awards Committee for 2 years.
Mike is a 25-year member of the Million-Dollar Round Table.*
He was named Wyoming Agent of the Year in 1988.*
He received the NAIFA Utah Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.*
Mike is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served 15 years as a member of the Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He was the radio sportscaster for the Rock Springs High School football and basketball programs (Voice of the Rock Springs Tigers) from 1982 to 1994. Mike moved to Ogden, Utah in 1993. He married Carolyn Meyers of Glendora, California in 1977. They have four children, Ariane, John Jr., Chelsea, and Jeffrey and six grandchildren.
